In general, it doesn't leave any smudges or clumps and lasts well throughout the day. It's easy to apply and adds length and volume, just as promised.

However, its water-resistant formula makes it a bit tricky to remove.

I personally lost several lashes while trying to take it off with lukewarm water, as the company claims you only need water and your fingers due to its tubing technology.

But in the end, I had to resort to using makeup remover and rubbing my lashes—definitely not the best routine for my 50s.

Additionally, their formula contains parabens, although in small quantities. Still, if you have very sensitive skin, it may not be the best option as parabens can potentially cause irritation and disrupt hormonal balance.

Thrive Mascara

Price: $26

Effectiveness: 80%

Thrive mascara lengthens lashes for a lash-extension look, uses tubing technology for easy removal, and won’t clump, flake, or smudge.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t very long-lasting, as it smudged and smeared by the end of the day.

The wand is quite bulky and struggles to reach the sparsest lashes in the corners of my eyes, mainly focusing on the central area.

It may not be as effective for mature lashes as it seems, but it could work well for younger women.

ILIA Mascara

Price: $28

Effectiveness: 70%

Designed for sensitive eyes, ILIA's Limitless Lash Mascara lengthens, separates, and adds volume to lashes.

The mascara is quite gentle on the eyes, and although it doesn’t use tubing technology, it can still be easily removed with warm water.

It has a dual-sided wand for curling and separating lashes, but unfortunately, it felt a bit sharp and didn’t work well for my sparse lashes, causing clumps every time I tried to apply it.

It will probably work better for someone with longer lashes who just wants a little extra volume, rather than for those with short lashes.

Boom Bright Mascara

Price: $27

Boom Bright is a water-based lengthening and separating mascara specifically crafted for women over 50 with thin lashes.

The mascara lengthens and moisturizes lashes, but unfortunately, it smudges and isn't very long-lasting.

What really put it in last place, though, was the removal process. It took quite a bit of effort to clean it off, as the mascara layer on my lashes was very thick.

This mascara doesn’t use tubing technology, so you need makeup removers to take it off. Alternatively, you could buy their Boom face cleanser suitable for mascara removal, but I don't think it's worth the extra cost.
